Workshops at TOWERMMK

KILL THE CARS

Guided tour + workshop
For: Elementary to intermediate level
Fee: 5€ per person
Duration: 2 hours
In German language

"Kill the cars!" claim two children jumping on a battered car - Kill the cars! What does that actually mean? What are they protesting against and does it still seem relevant to us? We look at human-made destruction, rage and protest and what this might have to do with car traffic and the city. In the workshop we will explore this in practice: who experiments with destruction and who prefers to develop their own vision for a car-free street?

LOOKING BACK / LOOKING NOW

Guided tour + workshop
For: from upper school
Fee: 5€ per person
Duration: 2 hours

In the Historic Photographs series, Gustav Metzger works with gigantic photographs that show catastrophic historical events and moments of destruction in the 20th century. In the exhibition at TOWERMMK, these works mainly revolve around the period of National Socialist Germany and the persecution and murder of Jews. Metzger does not show the photos directly, but installs them in such a way that views are obscured, diverted, softened or made impossible. Here he works with the cultural memory of societies, raising questions about the culture of remembrance, the confrontation with violent images and the reproduction of violent gazes. In the workshop, we will approach these works and the artistic practice of Gustav Metzger.
